So I've been trying something new the past few days. We're cutting back on television.
Now if you know me you know how much I love watching TV. I love a good House or NCIS marathon. Lately though I've been feeling this need, more like an urge, to have it quiet.
So for the past few days we've cut back. Sure we still turn it on, but it has been drastically less. I still have the Tivo set to record some shows, but I have a feeling I'll be purging some of those within the next few weeks while still keeping my favorites.
This has been toughest on Squirt who keeps arguing about it, but I think he'll come around. I'm not completely taking it away from him, but limiting it a lot more than before. He's too creative to let his brain turn to mush.
The quiet of the house or the praise and worship music I have playing on the Ipod has been a much needed change of pace for my chaotic mind. I've been more inspired and apt to work on my never ending to-do list. I've written more, scrapbooked a bit and sat on my porch just being still.
Another change I'm trying to make is falling asleep without the television on. This is a tough one for me. I have a hard time shutting my mind off and the television was always a way I could veg out and fall asleep. It's been four nights and it's getting easier. I'll definitely be using my Ipod to help calm my mind at night. Music has always been a calming thing for me.
Now do me a favor...go to this site, Glen Packiam, and look in the right hand corner and click the forward button until you see "Hold On". Then close your eyes and listen. Block everything else out and just listen. It's worth your time. I promise. (I couldn't find a YouTube video of it or I would have embedded it.)
Hope you all have a great Monday friends!
That's great! We could always do with a little less tv around here, too... now to just make it happen. Hmm...
